Good choice architecture reduces friction and preserves agency
People do not evaluate options in a vacuum. Order, defaults, labels, and the number of choices all affect what gets noticed and what feels easy. Choice architecture is the practice of designing that decision environment.
Responsible design makes the beneficial action clear while keeping alternatives visible and easy to select. It explains consequences in plain language and avoids dark patterns such as hidden fees, confusing consent, or difficult cancellation.
A simple test is reversibility: can a person understand the decision, choose another option, and change their mind without unreasonable effort? If not, the design needs more work.
